Pictures from The Secret City Festival

This past weekend we had the pleasure of taking part in the “Secret City Festival” in Oak Ridge, TN! We did a book signing on Saturday - it’s always so much fun to meet new readers and see old friends.

I was born and raised in Oak Ridge, TN so the Secret City Festival was a great way to connect with old and new friends. It’s a great festival that’s been around for 12 years and has entertainment, arts, fun things for the kids to do, and shares the incredible history Oak Ridge has. Eddie Money and Kix Brooks headlined concerts on Friday and Saturday night, which was great for us music lovers!

It was a great weekend and we are so thankful for those of you who stopped by the booth to say hi and get your book signed!

We are hard at work finishing the new book and getting everything in place for that release. Can’t WAIT to share this with you! Thank you all for your support, encouragement, and for helping us spread the word of WALK OF DEATH! We couldn’t have done it without you!

More to come on the new book in the coming weeks so stay tuned!

What lies behind the BODY FARM gate?

What lies behind the BODY FARM gate?

I found some more pix we took recently on our trip back to the Body Farm in Knoxville. Opening the gate to the world famous BODY FARM is Dr. Murray Marks, alias Dr. Stanley Gowen in WALK OF DEATH. Those of you who have read the book will remember that he is the one that Dr. Chris Walsh worked together with on the ten year journey to identify the body of Cody Britton.

Behind the Scenes: Writing

Behind the Scenes: Writing

Writing a true crime novel has been a dream for quite some time, so to have WALK OF DEATH out there for the world to read is an amazing experience. The creative process of writing this book was an entirely new adventure for me, and one that I greatly enjoyed! I'm currently working on the next book and next week we will talk more about the writing process and maybe a hint of what you can expect from the new book. Hope you will join us!

Behind the Scenes: Picking the Story

Behind the Scenes: Picking the Story

Have you ever watched a movie where they flash a “based on real events” notice at the very beginning? I don’t know about you, but when I see that I think, “Hmmm, what is real and what is fictional?” When something is “based on real events” you know that the story or movie is built around a true event with a chunk of fiction weaved throughout. It’s cool to know that this event actually happened, but the details are very interesting and we want to know what is true and what is made up.

In my line of work as a forensic scientist, details are important so I come by that general wondering honestly! But this week we will get into more detail regarding the story behind WALK OF DEATH to let you in behind the scenes. So first this question: Why was this particular case chosen to be the topic for my first novel?

A Special Thanks To Trudy and Whit Clark

A Special Thanks To Trudy and Whit Clark

Well, it’s been a month now since the official launch of the Walk of Death book promotion. It’s been a fast and furious ride so far! What a special way to kick it off than to have special friends like Trudy and Whit Clark to host an event at their awesome real estate offices, Fridrich and Clark, in the Green Hills area. It proved to be a well received event for many of their realtor colleagues in the middle Tennessee area. Just a great chance to meet some of their friends and start the momentum rolling for the middle Tennessee promotion.

New Way to Meet Mystery Readers

New Way to Meet Mystery Readers

Funny thing happened on the way to the Boston airport. So cool that it deserves its own blog. We are checking our bags at the Southwest Airlines counter, Karen is lugging this 24x30 color poster of the Walk of Death book while I’m trying to set each suitcase on the little machine to see if it weighs over 50 lbs. I’m giving it the business (*&^%$#@) cause we’re having to shift around to fit the weight requirements. I took out a couple of extra WOD books out of one suitcase, set it up on the counter to transfer it (and its weight) to the next suitcase.

Hats Off To The 100TH Anniversary Of The American Dental Hygienists Association!

Hats Off To The 100TH Anniversary Of The American Dental Hygienists Association!

When the invitation to speak at this prestigious meeting arrived almost a year ago, I had no idea the magnitude of this honor. Of course most all dentists have dental hygienists, those professionals in charge of keeping your pearly whites completely white. But the 100th anniversary for ANYTHING is a big deal!

Tabor Returns To His Roots - The Atomic (Secret) City

What a treat it will be to get back home and see some ol’ buds from the Class of ’67. Just a few short weeks after the Secret City Festival, my self-proclaimed Oak Ridge local contact committee, Bobbie Martin , and some of her recruits will be helping us with publicity for our July 18 lecture on ‘Forensic Identification at Ground Zero and Other High Profile Cases’.

Boston Is The Next Stop On The Book Train

Boston Is The Next Stop On The Book Train

Next stop on the book train will be Boston! How fortunate we were to land a speaking engagement at the American Dental Hygiene Association’s 100th anniversary meeting June 19-25, 2013 at the Hynes Convention Center. The program’s special theme is entitled: “100 Years of Dental Hygiene: Proud Past, Unlimited Future. When I heard a sampling of the other speakers on the program, I really appreciated our having the chance to participate in this elite group.
